Armenian PM says former leaders of country “should be behind bars”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said the country’s former leaders “should be behind bars.”

During a briefing, Pashinyan noted that he wants to see them only in the role of retirees, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“Kocharyan, Sargsyan and Tsarukyan should live waiting for the first days of the month and checking their phones to see whether their pensions have been deposited,” the PM added.

Regarding a poster made by Robert Kocharyan’s grandchildren ahead of the arrival of the security services, Pashinyan stressed that if they knew in advance, they could have printed it out and hung it on the roof of the building.

Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan has been arrested for two months, while Serzh Sargsyan has been ordered not to leave the country.

Both are defendants in a criminal case involving the alleged embezzlement of state property.
