Deniz Haber: Drone strike hits Turkish-linked cargo ship in Black Sea

27 August 2026 12:41

A Turkish-owned bulk carrier was attacked by a Ukrainian drone in the Black Sea, maritime news outlet Deniz Haber reports.

The vessel, Star II, is a 152-metre bulk carrier flying the Liberian flag and owned by Turkish company Lider Denizcilik. The ship came under attack during the night of August 25 shortly after leaving the Russian port of Tuapse for Türkiye.

The drone strike hit the vessel’s superstructure and caused significant damage to the bridge. No deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.

The reported attack comes as concerns grow over the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea. Türkiye’s Transport Ministry recently warned shipping companies about heightened security risks amid a series of attacks involving Turkish merchant vessels.

Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry has also voiced serious concern over the escalating conflict in the Black Sea, calling attention to the growing risks facing maritime traffic in the region.
