PM Sharif: Pakistan delivered “crushing response” to India’s cowardly attack
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for national unity following what he described as a cowardly Indian attack, praising the Pakistani armed forces for delivering a strong and decisive response.
Speaking to the National Assembly on May 7, he said India attempted a nighttime infiltration similar to past incidents in the early hours of the same day, Caliber.Az reports citing Pakistani media outlets, but was repelled through the bravery of Pakistan’s military and the prayers of the people.
At least 26 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the attack. Sharif said Indian Rafale jets were involved in the incursion, and that Pakistan’s forces were fully prepared, managing to destroy the incoming aircraft.
He commended the military’s coordinated and professional response, calling it a great victory for the nation. The prime minister specifically praised Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu for his leadership.
In his speech, Sharif detailed that India deployed 80 warplanes across six Pakistani locations, including AJK and Sialkot, revealing that five aircraft — including three Rafale jets — and several drones were shot down. Sharif concluded by emphasizing that Pakistan's air force had jammed Indian communications and forced their jets to retreat, proving the strength and deterrent power of Pakistan as a nuclear state.
According to Indian authorities, the strikes were in response to a deadly militant attack on Hindu pilgrims and tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last month.
