Syrian Presidential Adviser Mazloum Abdi is heading to Kobane following heightened security developments in the northern Syrian city.
Abdi is travelling to the city to “hold meetings with relevant institutions regarding the incident,” Caliber.Az reports per Syrian media.
Tensions have escalated sharply in Kobane, near Syria’s border with Türkiye, amid clashes between Kurdish Asayish forces and the Syrian General Security Service.
A fire broke out at a prison after detained Kurds reportedly attempted to set themselves on fire. Preliminary reports said nine people were killed and 17 others injured.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
