ASEAN mission hails Azerbaijan’s snap presidential elections as “free and democratic”

08 February 2024 10:27

Head of the mission of international observers from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Sanya Praseut has hailed Azerbaijan’s snap presidential elections as “free and democratic”.

"The presidential elections in Azerbaijan on February 7 were held in a transparent, free and democratic environment," Caliber.Az quotes Praseut as saying.

According to him, they monitored 7 polling stations from their opening until the end of the elections.

"The number of voter turnout is over 76 per cent. Voters were free to participate without any fear or intimidation. The voting stations were organized in an orderly manner that allowed free and full access for voters, who voted their preferred candidates.

A transparent system was in place to ensure observers from political parties, local and international observers to closely watch the whole process of the election. Vote counting takes only a few hours, using a reliable and effective mechanism with participation from all observers. This leads to reliable and valid results of the election, " emphasized Praseut.
