Decision to postpone US exercises jeopardizes Georgia's defence capabilities President Zourabichvili says

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has said that the postponement of the Georgia-US military exercises Noble Partner undermines the strategic partnership between the two countries and threatens Georgia's defence capabilities.

Zourabichvili expressed concern that Washington's decision would negatively impact the foundations upon which the Georgian army has been built, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

She attributed this setback to the Georgian authorities' failure to recognize "where its friends are and where its enemies are."

The president cautioned that Georgia would face insecurity if it ends up isolated, without partners, and without resources to strengthen its military.

The US Department of Defense announced on July 5 that the Noble Partner joint exercise, initially scheduled for summer 2024, is indefinitely postponed. The postponement is due to a revision of bilateral relations following Georgia's adoption of the law on foreign agents.

In response, Georgia has accused the United States of attempting to push the country into opening a "second front" against Russia and orchestrating a coup.
