Iranian FM leads delegation to Lebanon for talks and humanitarian aid
Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei has said that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Beirut at the head of a delegation from the Islamic Republic for talks with Lebanese officials.
“We have just landed at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. Our delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, which also includes two MPs and the head of the Red Crescent Society, will meet with representatives of the Lebanese authorities,” Baghaei stated on X, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He added that during the visit, the Iranian delegation will deliver a shipment of humanitarian aid to Lebanon, consisting of food and medical supplies.
"Iran will always stand with the brave people of Lebanon. The entire region must recognize the seriousness of the situation Lebanon is facing and its implications for the peoples of our countries," Baghaei stated.
On September 23, Israel launched a military operation named "Northern Arrow" against Hezbollah formations in Lebanon, conducting extensive strikes on the group's military facilities. The aim is to create secure conditions in the Israeli northern border areas to allow tens of thousands of residents to return. Following one of the Israeli strikes on September 27, Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Beirut.
On the night of October 1, the Israeli army announced the commencement of a ground operation in the southern border regions of Lebanon. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that the ongoing Israeli aggression threatens the existence of Lebanon.
