Russia announces deployment of new Irbis radar

The Russian Defence Ministry has said that servicemen of Battlegroup North have begun using a new Irbis radar during the ongoing military operation.

"This new radar is unique, providing reconnaissance capability up to a depth of approximately 150 kilometers. Based on our experience, it surpasses previous radar models due to its enhanced maneuverability, allowing for significantly faster deployment and repositioning," the radar team leader with the Sector callsign said, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

"The radar also boasts a significantly longer reconnaissance range, capable of detecting various types of enemy fire units including mortar teams, cannon artillery, and rocket artillery. Moreover, it can detect air targets. We conduct reconnaissance, identify targets, and promptly relay this information to the command posts of our artillery units," he added.

The radar has successfully thwarted multiple attempts by the Ukrainian army to target civilians, the defence ministry stressed.
