Russian leader announces upcoming meeting with Tajik counterpart
Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended birthday congratulations to Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rakhmon, revealing plans for a meeting in Moscow in the coming days.
The announcement was made in a telegram published on Rakhmon's official website, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
In his message, Putin expressed appreciation for Rakhmon's efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership and alliance between their nations, highlighting their collaboration within the frameworks of the CAAD, CIS, and SCO.
On October 4, Rakhmon met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin in Dushanbe, where they discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, industry, energy, finance, banking, and investment. According to the Russian Cabinet of Ministers, trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan rose by 14% in the first eight months of 2024, with growth in both imports and exports.
During a two-day official visit to Russia in November 2023, Rakhmon and Putin signed agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in various sectors, including industry, science, labour inspection, and transport. They also agreed on mutual recognition of authorized customs operators, which will streamline the movement of goods between the two countries.
At that meeting, Putin awarded Rakhmon the Russian Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 3rd degree.
