Tehran prepares metro stations for use as bomb shelters

Tehran is preparing metro stations for use as bomb shelters, Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran said, according to Iran International.

Chamran said the necessary facilities and utilities would be installed inside the stations or in their immediate vicinity, although no deadline has been specified for completing the preparations.

The stations will be fitted with special signs to identify them as shelters, while residents have been urged to familiarise themselves with their locations in advance rather than having to search for shelter during an emergency.

Tehran authorities had previously designated 82 metro stations for use as shelters.
