Putin tasks officials with ensuring power grids withstand winter

08 September 2026 16:51

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stressed the importance of ensuring that power grids in the Tver Region are fully prepared for the winter.

At a meeting with Putin at the Kremlin, Acting Governor of the Tver Region Vitaly Korolev said the region has a program aimed at improving the reliability of its power grids, according to TASS.

“We need to make sure they get through the winter, so that nothing gets knocked out,” Putin said.

“Very important,” Korolev replied. He also said work was underway to strengthen the region’s power grid infrastructure and asked the president to support the construction of a new 330-kV substation and connecting power lines.

“We discussed this issue with [Russian Deputy Prime Minister] Alexander Valentinovich Novak and Andrey Valerievich Ryumin, head of Rosseti [Russian power company]. Our colleagues supported us in the need to move forward with this,” the acting governor explained.

“I’ll talk to them as well,” Putin responded.
