US appoints Courtney Austrian as acting ambassador to Georgia

Courtney Austrian has taken over as acting US ambassador to Georgia, replacing Amy Diaz, who has returned to her position as deputy chief of mission.

“We are pleased to announce the arrival of Chargé d’Affaires Courtney Austrian at the US Embassy. Amy W. Diaz has resumed her role as Deputy Chief of Mission,” the US Embassy statement read.

Austrian is a US diplomat with around 30 years of experience at the State Department. Since August 2023, she has served as director of an office within the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.

From 2020 to 2023, Austrian served as deputy chief of mission and acting chargé d’affaires at the US Mission to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna.
