MFA spox: Russia outraged by Israeli strike on Gaza school
Russia has expressed profound shock and outrage over the Israeli airstrike on the Al-Taba'een school in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the attack, which occurred on the morning of August 10, Caliber.Az reports.
She reported that the school, located in Gaza City, was struck while housing over 2,000 refugees. According to Palestinian sources, the assault resulted in more than 100 deaths, numerous injuries, and many people trapped under the rubble. Among the casualties were many women and children.
Zakharova conveyed Moscow's deep sorrow and extended condolences to the victims' families while wishing a swift recovery to those injured. She also urged Israel to halt attacks on civilian areas, asserting that such strikes are detrimental to efforts for a ceasefire and the exchange of detainees.
“The systematic nature of these attacks on civilian targets in the Gaza Strip is deeply troubling. We call on Israel to cease these assaults, as there can be no justification for them. Last month alone, 13 displacement centres were reportedly bombed. Incidents like the one at Al-Taba'een school undermine international attempts to de-escalate the conflict and achieve an early ceasefire and detainee exchange,” Zakharova said.
