President Pezeshkian tasks new ambassador with boosting Iran-Azerbaijan ties
At the official farewell ceremony for Iran’s newly appointed ambassadors, President Masoud Pezeshkian tasked Mojtaba Demirchilou, the new ambassador to Azerbaijan, with the critical mission of expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the ceremony held on June 3 morning, which included ambassadors assigned to China, Côte d'Ivoire, Mexico, Cuba, and Uruguay, President Pezeshkian stressed that strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with partner countries is essential to enhancing Iran’s resilience against external pressures and geopolitical shocks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Highlighting the positive trajectory of Iran’s ties with Azerbaijan, especially following his recent visit to Baku, the president called on Ambassador Demirchilou to swiftly assess mutual opportunities and potentials for cooperation. He emphasised the need for targeted planning to develop relations in political, economic, cultural, and security fields based on shared interests.
President Pezeshkian also underscored the importance of supporting Iranian private sector activities in Azerbaijan, urging the ambassador to prioritise facilitating business operations and investments that contribute to stronger economic ties.
In addition to Azerbaijan, the president noted promising prospects for Iran’s relations with China, Africa, and Latin America. He referred to ongoing foreign policy discussions aimed at formulating comprehensive strategies for these regions based on mutual benefits and capacities.
Demirchilou, currently serving as Director General of the Eurasia Department at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brings extensive experience in regional diplomacy. His appointment reflects Tehran’s strategic focus on strengthening ties with Azerbaijan amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the South Caucasus.
