AI-based drones used for demining in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh
As part of the implementation of the state-run “Great Return” program, Azerbaijani government continues activities to eliminate landmine danger and create favorable living conditions in the Karabakh region, the Karabakh bureau of Report.az informs.
Drones have been deployed to the liberated Talysh and Sugovushan villages, where mine clearance operations are carried out.
Artifical intelligence (AI)-based drones equipped by the British RPS Energy Ltd. company have been involved in the study and analysis of minefields in Karabakh. The company secured a relevant agreement with the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA).
As part of the agreement between the sides, over the past year, drone technologies powered by AI helped analyze 18,000 hectares of territories in Zangilan, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Tartar and Gubadli districts.
The interconnected multi-spectral, thermographic and high-precision (RGB) cameras installed on these drones ensure collection of terrain data. The obtained data are further processed on the map and allow determining with what types of explosive devices and to what extent the study area is contaminated.
