In line with President Ilham Aliyev’s directives and under the framework of the First State Program on the Great Return, another group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) has begun resettling in their native lands. These individuals, who had previously been housed in temporary shelters such as dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative facilities across Azerbaijan, are now returning to the city of Jabrayil.
According to domestic media reports, this latest phase of the resettlement initiative involves 44 families comprising 166 people who are relocating to Jabrayil.
The returning residents expressed deep appreciation to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for the comprehensive care and support provided by the state. They also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces—its soldiers and officers—whose efforts led to the liberation of their lands. Many paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives and offered prayers for their souls.
Among those returning is Sakina Aslanova, who voiced her emotions:
“Today I am immensely happy and feel wonderful. I want to live a peaceful and joyful life in Jabrayil. May all former displaced persons be lucky enough to return to their native lands. We are grateful to our Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the valiant Army for giving us this day. May the Almighty rest the souls of our martyrs and grant health to the veterans!”
Another returnee, Khagani Agayev, shared similar sentiments:
“I have been eagerly awaiting the day when I would return to my native land. I am grateful to our President and the Army for giving us this joy. May the Almighty rest the souls of our martyrs and protect our veterans. It is thanks to their self-sacrifice that we can return to this land today.”
As part of this phase, 44 families—166 individuals in total—are making their way back to Jabrayil, reaffirming the Azerbaijani government’s commitment to restoring life in the liberated territories.
This resettlement effort comes in the wake of Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, led by President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. That military success not only restored the country’s territorial integrity but also made it possible for displaced families to return home after nearly thirty years, in conditions that are safe, voluntary, and dignified.
It is worth noting that approximately 50,000 people are now living in Karabakh and East Zangezur. This population includes not only former IDPs who have been resettled but also individuals working on development projects in the region. Many of them are employed in local branches of state institutions and sectors such as healthcare, education, culture, tourism, industry, and energy, which have resumed operations in the liberated areas.
