Diplomats visit historic Ganjasar monastery during Karabakh tour VIDEO

Members of Azerbaijan’s diplomatic corps visited the historic Ganjasar monastery complex in the Aghdara district on the second day of their tour of Karabakh.

The monastery, an important religious and cultural site associated with the heritage of Caucasian Albania, dates largely to the 13th century. The complex is located on a hill overlooking the Khachinchay River, an area that was considered sacred even before the spread of Christianity, Caliber.Az writes. 

The monastery sustained changes to its historical architectural appearance during the period of Armenian occupation in an attempt to distort its historical character.

Restoration and landscaping work carried out in 2012 included covering parts of the monastery’s walls with marble slabs and altering the appearance of the courtyard.
