Diplomats visit Azerbaijan’s revived Istisu mineral water plant in Kalbajar PHOTO
Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan have visited the Istisu mineral water plant in Kalbajar, where they were briefed on the facility’s operations, production capacity and bottling process.
The diplomats were also provided with information about the plant and the Istisu mineral water springs, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The plant has resumed production of Istisu mineral water from the Kalbajar deposit after a 30-year hiatus. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation stone for the facility on June 26, 2022, while construction was completed in 2024.

During the diplomatic corps’ visit, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev and Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilou continued a tradition established by the Azerbaijani and Iranian presidents by drinking Istisu mineral water together.
Hajiyev said President Ilham Aliyev and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had established a “very good tradition.”
“In other words, following this tradition, we also decided to drink Istisu with Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilou. Together, we will also think about how to deliver Istisu water to the brotherly people of Iran, and we are confident that they will also find its taste excellent,” he said.
The gesture follows an exchange between Aliyev and Pezeshkian on August 31 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
