Bullet-riddled busts of Azerbaijan’s icon shown to foreign diplomats in Shusha
Representatives of the diplomatic corps visiting Karabakh have viewed the bullet-riddled busts of prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul and Uzeyir Hajibayli in Shusha.
As Caliber.Az reports per local media, the diplomats were briefed on the fate of the monuments, which were vandalised during the occupation, looted and taken to Armenia. An attempt was made there to melt the busts down for scrap metal.
The diplomats were also informed that the busts were returned to Azerbaijan following the intervention of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
The monuments were subsequently kept in the courtyard of the National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan in Baku. Following the liberation of Shusha, the busts were returned to their original locations in the city.
