Presidential aide: Azerbaijan moving towards lasting peace with Armenia

11 September 2026 12:09

Azerbaijan will continue efforts to establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus and strengthen peace on the ground, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, has said.

According to Hajiyev, the final chapter of the Karabakh conflict had been closed three years ago, ushering in a new era of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

August marked the first anniversary of the initialling of a peace agreement and an agreement on the establishment of interstate relations between the two countries, he said.

“For Azerbaijan, the conflict is over. We are learning to live in conditions of peace and are moving in this direction,” Hajiyev stated.

He added that peace should mean more than the absence of confrontation, and should include building trust, reconstruction and development.

Hajiyev said a recent meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia had taken place in a constructive atmosphere.

“The sides agreed to continue bilateral engagement to advance the peace agenda, build trust, and develop trade relations and transport connectivity between the two countries,” he added.
