Azerbaijan Prosecutor General’s Office clarifies victim count after Kalbajar mine blast

06 August 2025 12:35

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has issued an official statement clarifying the difference in the reported number of military personnel injured following the detonation of an Armenian landmine beneath an army truck in the Kalbajar district.

According to the statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, it was previously reported that five Azerbaijani soldiers were injured, whereas the Ministry of Defence had announced only four.

The clarification explains that there is no contradiction between the figures.

The Ministry of Defence’s report refers to the four soldiers who were evacuated from the site of the explosion and are currently receiving full medical treatment in hospital.

Meanwhile, a fifth soldier, who sustained minor injuries, was treated on the spot.

Thus, the total number of injured personnel remains five, as initially reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

On the evening of August 5, a military truck of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces struck a mine planted by Armenian forces in the Kalbajar district, injuring five servicemen.

The explosion was confirmed by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan, which is now investigating the incident.
