Macron offered Trump peace in Ukraine for silence on wife’s gender – Owens
US conservative commentator Candace Owens has claimed that French President Emmanuel Macron attempted to link progress on peace talks in Ukraine to efforts by Donald Trump to silence her over claims about the French First Lady’s gender.
Appearing on The Tucker Carlson Show on August 1, Owens said Macron had approached the US President directly about her, Caliber.Az reports.
“Trump said he was very confused,” Owens told Carlson, when “the leader of France took him aside during negotiations for Ukraine and Russia to inquire about whether or not he knew Candace Owens.”
She added: “Clearly it was an emergency,” explaining that she was contacted by a Trump aide in February. Carlson joked that this was “the true face of diplomacy.”
Owens went on to say that the aide had informed her that her silence “was presented to him as a condition to ending the Russia-Ukraine war.”
The comments follow a defamation suit filed earlier this month by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron in the US state of Delaware.
The couple accuse Owens of deliberately spreading the rumour that the French First Lady was born “Jean-Michel Trogneux” in order to attract online attention and benefit financially from the controversy.
Owens, a conservative commentator, released an eight-part YouTube series titled Becoming Brigitte earlier this year, in which she questions the First Lady’s identity. She has claimed that the Macrons and “their entire entourage” were among the viewers.
She has pledged to fight the lawsuit in court.
