Azerbaijan condemns Islamabad mosque attack, offers condolences
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has expressed deep condolences to the people and government of Pakistan following the deadly attack on a mosque in Islamabad that claimed multiple lives and injured many others.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry strongly condemned the “heinous act of violence and terrorism,” which specifically targeted worshippers at a sacred place.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we wish a swift recovery to those injured,” the statement read.
Azerbaijan reaffirmed its solidarity with Pakistan, describing the country as a “brotherly” nation, and reiterated its commitment to peace, stability, and the fight against all forms of terrorism.
At least 31 people have died, and over 160 were injured in a suicide attack at the Imambargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra mosque in Islamabad’s Tarlai district on Friday during prayers.
Authorities said the attacker, linked to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, detonated explosives after being challenged at the mosque entrance. Eyewitnesses reported that security guards opened fire as he forced his way inside.
The blast damaged the three-storey building and nearby homes. Security forces, including the army and Rangers, sealed off the area while rescue teams evacuated the wounded to hospitals, which struggled to cope with the scale of casualties.
