Azerbaijan defence chief pays working visit to Türkiye

Azerbaijani Defence Minister Col-Gen Zakir Hasanov is on a working visit to fraternal Türkiye at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Yashar Guler.

Hasanov will take part in a number of events to be held on August 30- Victory Day of Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

As part of the visit, the minister is also scheduled to participate in graduation ceremonies held at special educational institutions subordinate to the National Defense University of the Republic of Türkiye.

Victory Day, formally known as Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day, is the centenary of the resounding defeat of the occupying Greek army at the hands of the Turks in the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922.

The Battle of Dumlupınar was a chapter in the Great Offensive, one of the greatest military victories in the history of Türkiye. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) launched the offensive on August 26, 1922, under the leadership of Atatürk, and ended on September 18 that year.
