Azerbaijan, Russia discuss strengthening interparliamentary cooperation

08 November 2024 17:53

Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Rahman Mustafayev has held a meeting with First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Andrey Yatskin and Chairman of the Federation Council's Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation between the two countries, the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia said, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The meeting focused on enhancing Azerbaijani-Russian interparliamentary cooperation and organising the next session of the Interparliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Azerbaijani parliament and the Federal Assembly of Russia.

The participants also exchanged views on current issues in bilateral relations and the regional situation.

In turn, Mustafayev briefed his counterparts on the progress of negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasising the urgent need to remove provisions from Armenia’s legal and regulatory documents that lay territorial claims against Azerbaijan, which he identified as the main obstacle to reaching a peace agreement.

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov have discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation during a phone talk.

The phone talk between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov addressed pressing issues concerning trade, economic, and scientific-technical collaboration between Azerbaijan and Russia.

The particular attention was given to joint projects in such spheres as industry and transport infrastructure.
