Baku urges Paris to fulfil recommendations of UN Human Rights Committee
Azerbaijan calls on France to implement the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Committee based on its obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
“We highly appreciate the results of the investigation of the UN Human Rights Committee,” Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Aykhan Hajizada wrote on social network X, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The distributed statement of the UN Committee says that France infringes on the rights of foreign migrants, forcibly turning them around on the border with Italy, limiting their access to asylum procedures.
The committee also urged France to step up efforts to provide migrants with decent housing and to stop the mistreatment of asylum seekers and irregular migrants at the Franco-British border. The UN Human Rights Committee called on France to hold accountable those responsible for the use of excessive force against protesters in New Caledonia and to compensate the victims of such actions by the French authorities.
