Houthis warn Trump’s policies could further harm US economy amid Gaza conflict
The Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, has warned that President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the US elections could lead to more economic damage unless he intervenes to end Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The Houthis, who have aligned themselves with the broader Iran-led Axis of Resistance, launched an unprecedented offensive targeting international shipping, specifically vessels with ties to Israel, after the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
This campaign has caused significant disruptions in global trade, particularly through the Suez Canal, driving up costs and affecting the global economy.
The Houthis have vowed to continue their offensive despite retaliatory strikes from the US and Israel. They have linked the growing economic costs to US support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Yemen. According to an Ansar Allah source, the economic toll on the US is significant, with American ships being blocked from passing through Yemeni waters in retaliation for US aggression.
“We believe Trump will fail to honour his promise to Arab voters and those supporting Gaza,” said the source, citing concerns that Trump would not fulfill his pledges to halt US support for Israel’s Gaza campaign. The source warned that continued US support for Israel would result in further losses for the American economy.
During his presidency, Trump had a close relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and deepened military ties with Saudi Arabia, which backs the internationally recognized Yemeni government in its fight against the Houthis. The Houthi movement’s intervention in Gaza has turned Yemen into a focal point in the broader Middle East conflict. While Trump has expressed a desire to end wars in the Middle East, the Houthis remain skeptical of his ability to change US policy.
