US angler lands $4.27 million white marlin at Maryland Tournament
An American angler has landed a white marlin worth more than $4 million during the annual White Marlin Open fishing tournament in Ocean City, Maryland.
Dan Gough caught the 72lb (32kg) fish aboard the vessel Billfisher, organisers said in a statement. The prize value is estimated at $4.27m, making it one of the most lucrative catches in the competition’s history, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The event, now in its 52nd year, also saw a blue marlin weighing 929.5lb (421kg) brought in by angler Drew Osmaier on the boat Barbara. That catch is valued at $1.2 million.
The White Marlin Open, billed as the world’s largest billfishing tournament, attracts hundreds of anglers each year and offers millions in prize money.
This year’s competition runs through the end of the week.
