Azerbaijan expands share in Georgia’s energy import market
Imports of fuel and lubricants from Azerbaijan to Georgia rose sharply in the first four months of 2026, reflecting growing energy trade between the two neighboring countries.
According to calculations based on data from Georgia’s National Statistics Office, Georgia imported fuel and lubricants from Azerbaijan worth $153.5 million between January and April, a 24% increase compared to the same period last year, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The figures placed Azerbaijan second among Georgia’s leading suppliers of fuel and lubricants during the reporting period.
In April alone, imports from Azerbaijan totaled $33.4 million, double the amount recorded in the same month a year earlier.
Overall, Georgia imported fuel and lubricants worth $896.7 million from foreign suppliers in the first four months of 2026, marking a 26% year-on-year increase.
During the same period, Georgia purchased fuel and lubricants worth $458.6 million from Russia, $72.3 million from Türkiye, $45.65 million from Romania, and $38.1 million from Bulgaria.
In 2025, Georgia’s total imports of fuel and lubricants amounted to $1.6 billion, including $145 million worth of supplies imported from Azerbaijan.
