Azerbaijan files criminal case on mass grave in Khojavend
The Azerbaijani Military Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case upon articles 115.4, 120.2.1, 120.2.7 and 120.2.12 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan due to a mass grave in Edilli village of the Khojavend district.
The investigative agencies revealed that during the first Karabakh war, the Armenian armed formations and the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia grossly violated the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, including the requirements of Article 17 of the Geneva Convention "On the improvement of the condition of the wounded and sick in armies" dated August 12, 1949. Some 25 prisoners of war, presumably servicemen of the Azerbaijani army, were killed and massively buried in Edilli village of the Khojavend district on the basis of national hatred in 1993, the Prosecutor General's Office told Report.
Human remains belonging to seven people were found and removed from a mass grave in Edilli village of the Khojavend district on February 23-26, 2022 while human remains belonging to 18 people on September 14-30, 2022.
The required expertise was arranged, bone remain samples were taken and submitted for molecular genetic testing.
