Azerbaijan, Iran sign major agreements in transport, culture, politics

A high-level ceremony was held on April 28 to mark the exchange of key documents between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The event, which took place in Baku, was attended by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

During the ceremony, both leaders signed a Joint Statement of the Presidents, reaffirming their commitment to furthering bilateral relations. In a show of strong diplomatic engagement, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi exchanged the "Program of Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran for 2025-2027."

Another significant development came with the signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding on Comprehensive Cooperation in the Field of Transport for 2025-2026," exchanged between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development (and co-chair of the intergovernmental commission) Farzaneh Sadegh.

Additionally, a memorandum regarding the mutual recognition of certificates in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers was exchanged by the same ministers.

Azerbaijan and Iran also deepened their cultural cooperation with the exchange of the "Program of Cultural Exchange between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the Islamic Republic of Iran for 2025-2028." This agreement was signed by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture Adil Karimli and Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri.

In conclusion, the two countries solidified their media cooperation through the exchange of a "Memorandum of Understanding on Media Cooperation" between the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and Minister Sadegh.
