French actor undergoes euthanasia after years of severe pain PHOTO

French actor and theatre director Arnaud Denis underwent euthanasia in Belgium at the age of 43 to end years of severe suffering, his lawyer, Philippe Courtois, announced.

Denis had suffered for years from what he described as excruciating pain linked to an anti-hernia implant. He had undergone surgery for a right groin hernia on July 17, 2023, during which a polypropylene mesh implant was inserted.

His condition subsequently deteriorated significantly, with “multiple abnormal forms of suffering.” The implant was eventually removed in the United States in April 2024 after no specialist in France had been able to perform the procedure. However, the pain persisted.

On January 5, Denis filed a complaint against an unidentified party with the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office over unintentional injuries “following serious medical complications that occurred after a surgical procedure performed on July 17, 2023,” his lawyer said.

The complaint was dismissed at the end of August on the grounds that the alleged offense was “insufficiently established.” On September 18, Denis said he was “outraged and disillusioned” by the decision, adding: “They are trampling on what little is left of me.”

Courtois said he filed a new complaint on September 18, this time with civil-party status, seeking “the opening of a judicial investigation.”

Denis had also founded the group “French Victims of Hernia Prostheses,” which brought together hundreds of testimonies on social media from people reporting distress over adverse effects allegedly associated with anti-hernia implants.

In a lengthy Facebook post published shortly before his death, Denis explained his decision and reflected on years of suffering and what he described as “three endless years of deterioration in my general condition.”

“I am done with medical mistreatment,” he wrote.

“People generally think, somewhat naively, that all you have to do is ‘go to the hospital’ to get better and receive treatment. Sadly, that is false. I used to think that too, before becoming a victim of repeated medical errors. I believed a little in Santa Claus. My medical records are full of serious errors,” Denis wrote.
