Azerbaijan marks 32nd anniversary of Dashalti operation

26 January 2024 09:24

Today marks the 32nd anniversary of the Dashalti operation carried out by the Azerbaijani Army.

Caliber.Az recalls that the operation aimed at the liberation of the village of Dashalti was launched on January 25, 1992, and ended in failure on the evening of January 26.

The operation involved 200 soldiers from the Shikhov battalion. Former Defence Minister Tadjeddin Mehdiyev was in charge of the operation.

According to the first plan, the platoon was to pass through the village of Nebiler, climb up to the height of Qizilqaya, and from there cut the road that leads from Dashalti to the village of Signakh. According to the second plan, the platoon was supposed to block the road leading from Dashalti to the village of Shushakand.

Unfavourable weather conditions, lack of communication between the platoons, leaking of secret information about the operation and betrayal of the guides led to the failure of the operation.

The platoon which reached Dashalti was ambushed. The other platoons also suffered losses and were forced to withdraw from the area.

The total loss of the Azerbaijani Army during the failure of the operation was 90 men. Armenians also suffered casualties, with 80 Armenian soldiers killed.

As a result of the successful counter-offensive operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Army since September 27, 2020, the lands occupied by Armenia for many years have been liberated.

On November 9, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army liberated the village of Dashalti, which had been under the control of Armenian armed formations since 1991. After 28 years, the revenge for the "Dashalti" operation has come.

Mass graves were discovered in the formerly occupied Azerbaijani territories after the liberation. One of these graves was discovered on February 17, 2021, on the territory of the village of Dashalti, from which the remains of 7 people were exhumed.

Between 1988 and 1994, 3,890 people disappeared as a result of gross violations of the Geneva Conventions by the Armenian armed forces. Of these, 3,771 were military and 719 were civilian. There are reports of 872 missing persons who were taken prisoner. Military personnel numbered 378 and civilians 1,102 of the 1,480 released from captivity. Civilians included 224 children, 357 women and 225 old people. Of the 552 people who died in captivity, 447 were men and 105 were women.

Direct evidence of the war crimes committed by the Armenians is the mass graves of people shot with their hands and feet tied, found on the territory of the village of Dashalti.
