02 September 2024 12:00

Russian State Duma MP Alexander Terentyev has called snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on September 1 one of the most important political events in the country.

"This event will show us what vector of development Azerbaijan will choose in the future," Terentyev said, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

According to him, Russia is pleased that Azerbaijan is pursuing an independent policy.

"We are pleased that Azerbaijan is pursuing a sovereign and independent policy for the benefit of its people. Many countries face outside influence in elections. We are glad that Azerbaijan held a strong election campaign, this shows the satisfaction of the Azerbaijani people with the political course that the government has chosen," he said.

The MP also recalled that Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tatarstan, which he represents, are linked by strong ties.

Terentyev noted that the elections were successful. "Visiting the polling stations, we saw a very friendly atmosphere. In legal terms, these were successful elections," he concluded.

Meanwhile, a member of the Senate of Pakistan Afnan Ullah Khan said that during their observations at three polling stations, they witnessed Azerbaijani citizens voting in a calm atmosphere.

According to him, the election process was very well organised.

“Democracy is important for the development of all countries. We hope that the democratic process in Azerbaijan will continue in the future,” he said.

According to the head of the CIS observer mission, First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Leonid Anfimov, a total of about 40,000 employees took part in special trainings to ensure the success of the elections.

He noted that the members of the mission observed the elections at the Central Election Commission and, in the opinion of the mission, all necessary measures were taken for the transparent conduct of the elections.

Serbian MP Zivota Startevic, who observed the voting process at the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, said that his delegation visited several polling stations and the elections were held in accordance with democratic standards.

The observer noted that no nuances were recorded that could have interfered with the voting process.

“Voting took place in peaceful conditions. No violations were recorded at the polling stations where we made observations. Thanks to the professionalism of the Central Election Commission, everything was at a high level,” Starkevich said.

The parliamentarian added that the workers at the polling stations demonstrated a high level of professionalism. “This shows that they have undergone the necessary training,” he concluded.
