Caliber.Az highlights US hypocrisy amid Armenia’s active military buildup

The US State Department has reaffirmed its respect for Armenia’s sovereign right to shape its own foreign relations, responding to concerns about Armenia's growing militarization and deepening ties with Russia.

This statement was made in response to a question posed by an Azertag correspondent in the US about Armenia's military policies and the ongoing support it receives from former OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, Caliber.Az reports.

The question also highlighted the increasing military and trade cooperation between Armenia and Russia, warning of the potential threat this poses to regional stability. It also addressed the impact of the US and European Union's growing military support for Armenia on the ongoing negotiations for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

In response, the US State Department stated that its aid to Armenia is focused on promoting democratic and economic development, strengthening Armenia's integration into the regional economy, diversifying trade, and enhancing resilience to negative influences. The department dismissed suggestions that US assistance was contributing to militarization, emphasizing that its support was aimed at fostering peaceful development.

The statement also reiterated the US’s belief in the ability of both Azerbaijan and Armenia to bring lasting peace and prosperity to the region: “The parties have made significant progress towards completing the agreement, and the United States remains committed to supporting this process in any way it can.”

P.S. The State Department's statements are hypocritical against the background of Armenia's active arming, as Caliber.Az has repeatedly reported. Thus, the US Foreign Ministry denies the obvious.
