Azerbaijani border guards foil drone drug drop near Lankaran post
On March 21, Azerbaijan’s border guards responded to suspicious activity near the "Lankaran" border guard post, where they heard the sound of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
Soon after, two unidentified individuals were seen traveling in a car toward the same area, Caliber.Az reports, citing the message of the Azerbaijani State Border Service.
The operational measures led to the detention of two suspects, identified as Ilgar Gurbanov, 25, and Nemat Maharramov, 40, both residents of the Saray settlement in the Absheron district.
During a search of the vehicle they were in, border guards discovered and seized 6 kg 354 g of marijuana. The suspects admitted to arriving at the location to collect the drugs, which had been dropped from Iranian territory via drone. Authorities are continuing operational and investigative efforts to further pursue the case.
