Azerbaijani civilian injured in mine explosion in Aghdam district

18 December 2025 09:09

A civilian was injured in a landmine explosion in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district on the evening of December 17, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA).

The incident occurred at around 22:00 in the area of Chamanli village, which was liberated from occupation. A local resident born in 1982 was injured when an anti-tank mine exploded while he was ploughing agricultural land with a tractor in an area that had not yet been cleared of mines along the former contact line.

The injured man was evacuated to hospital and is receiving medical treatment. The Aghdam District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.

ANAMA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General’s Office have once again urged citizens to strictly observe safety rules, pay close attention to mine hazard warning signs, avoid entering unfamiliar or uncleared areas, and refrain from interfering in areas where fencing and demarcation work is under way.

Landmine contamination remains a serious threat in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation, posing ongoing risks to civilians and agricultural activities.
