Azerbaijani customs seize 4.5 kg of opium en route from Iran to UK VIDEO

Azerbaijani customs authorities have seized 4.5 kilograms of opium concealed in a truck transporting food products from Iran to the United Kingdom, the State Customs Committee said.

The drugs were discovered during an inspection at the Shakhtakhty border checkpoint operated by the Nakhchivan Customs Directorate, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the committee, customs officers found 4 kilograms and 500 grams of opium hidden in a makeshift compartment inside the truck's refrigerated section. The vehicle was transporting food products from Iran to the UK in transit through Azerbaijani territory.

An investigation into the case is underway, the committee said.
