Baku, Izmir expand cooperation on diaspora projects
Chairman of the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora Fuad Muradov met with Suleyman Elban, governor of Izmir, during an official visit to Türkiye to discuss strengthening cooperation with the Azerbaijani diaspora.
The committee told Caliber.Az that the meeting focused on the activities of the Azerbaijani community in Izmir, including its integration into society, as well as opportunities in education and employment. The sides also discussed expanding joint initiatives in cultural cooperation and public diplomacy.
Muradov, referring to policies implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, emphasised that uniting Azerbaijanis living abroad, preserving their national and cultural identity, and ensuring their active integration into host societies remain key priorities. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijani communities in different cities across Türkiye and local institutions.
Elban, in turn, said he attaches particular importance to developing ties with Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with the Diaspora and expressed readiness to support expanded cooperation with the Azerbaijani community in Izmir, including projects in education, employment, and other areas.
The meeting also included detailed discussions on future cooperation, with an exchange of views on organising joint cultural and public events, strengthening ties between diaspora organisations and local authorities, and increasing the involvement of youth and students in such initiatives.
