A declaration was adopted at the end of the conference, says Report.
“Recognizing that landmine contamination has an impact on the environment, it is essential to prevent and mitigate the possible negative effects of landmine contamination through appropriate, environmentally responsible measures,” stated Steinar Essen, UNDP Global Mine Action and Development Advisor.
Essen called on all states and stakeholders to support mine action in all its areas, particularly mine victim assistance, mine clearance, and risk education. He emphasized the importance of providing adequate and appropriate resources, including technical, financial, and material assistance, as well as training.
