Belarus president warns of Ukraine's destruction amid escalation in Kursk region”

18 August 2024 15:47

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that Russia will liberate the Kursk region from the invading Ukrainian forces at any cost, warning that the escalation of the conflict could lead to the destruction of Ukraine as a state.

In an interview with the TV channel "Russia", Lukashenko noted that the Ukrainian fighters who attacked the Kursk region were not amateurs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media outlets.

"These were seasoned soldiers, gathered from across the battlefront. Most had already seen combat. Others were reinforced with mercenaries, including Poles. A powerful force was assembled, and they advanced... What is a border? I served, so I know what a border is. It’s just a few guys there, maybe reinforced in your case. They couldn't hold back such a strong force," said the president.

"Naturally, the Ukrainian forces will be driven out. Then the question arises: why did they enter? Was it to sacrifice their most battle-hardened soldiers? And what will happen on other fronts? We know for sure that when Ukrainians head to the front, they say their goodbyes to everyone—they understand they're on a one-way trip," the Belarusian leader added.

Lukashenko stressed that the escalation of the conflict could have dire consequences for Ukraine as a nation.

"If things continue like they did near Kursk, this escalation will lead to Ukraine's destruction. No one has ever defeated this empire, and Russia will not be defeated. What can NATO do here? The Americans have one strategy—to pit Europe against Russia. Let them fight, and then the US will deal with China in the East," the Belarusian president concluded.
