China eases tensions, lifts sanctions on 17 US companies
China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced that China temporarily lifted the sanctions imposed on 17 US companies previously included on its "Unreliable Entities List".
The affected companies had previously faced strict measures that prohibited them from conducting import and export activities with China, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Additionally, these companies were restricted from making new investments in the country. However, in light of recent high-level trade negotiations between China and the US, these restrictions have been paused.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, starting May 14, 2025, for a period of 90 days, the sanctions detailed in previous notifications issued on April 4 and April 9 will be temporarily suspended. This action is in line with the agreements made during recent China-US trade and economic talks.
On May 12, China and the US reached an agreement to mutually freeze the application of tariffs at 24 percentage points for an initial 90-day period, starting from May 14. The two countries held high-level trade and economic talks in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 10 to 11. The Chinese delegation was led by Vice Premier He Lifeng, while the US side was represented by Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. On the same day, US President Donald Trump described the trade talks as productive, stating that the discussions had led to a full reset of relations.
