Ex-Shah’s son outlines plan for democratic transition in Iran
Reza Pahlavi, the eldest son of Iran’s last Shah, announced that he is prepared to oversee a transition to a democratic system and hold free elections following a change of power in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington, according to Sky News, Pahlavi said he has a “clear plan for a transition to democracy” that would be implemented immediately after what he described as the regime’s defeat.
The plan is built around four key principles:
-
Preserving Iran’s territorial integrity,
-
Separating religion from the state,
-
Ensuring personal freedoms and equality for all citizens, and
-
Allowing the Iranian people to freely choose their democratic form of government.
Pahlavi stressed that the transitional period should be peaceful, stable, and orderly. His team of experts has prepared a detailed roadmap for the first 100 days after the current regime’s collapse, aimed at guiding the country’s political and economic recovery.
He also pledged to initiate a constitutional process under international supervision, culminating in free and fair elections.
Concluding his remarks, Pahlavi said that Iran is at a historic turning point:
"There are moments in history where the moral imperative for action is so strong that the weight of inaction becomes unbearable. This is one of those moments."
