China denies supplying weapons to Russia or Ukraine amid US sanctions Foreign Ministry spokesperson says

18 October 2024 19:26

Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning has said that China is not supplying weapons to either Russia or Ukraine and is carefully regulating the export of dual-use products.

Mao Ning made these remarks during a briefing in response to the latest US sanctions against China citing alleged ties with Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

"China firmly opposes the illegal unilateral sanctions imposed by the US on Chinese companies and will never accept baseless accusations or yield to US pressure. China has never provided lethal weapons to either side in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. We strictly regulate the export of dual-use goods, including drones, and we oppose the military use of civilian drones," she said.

Mao Ning stated that China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens.

She emphasised that China is neither the instigator nor a party to the Ukrainian crisis. Beijing has consistently advocated for peace and negotiations, playing a constructive role in facilitating political resolution.

Moreover, Mao Ning noted that China urges NATO to reflect on its influence on European security architecture and to cease provoking conflicts between blocs.

"We hope that NATO will seriously consider the consequences of its actions for the architecture of European security and the impact of fostering bloc confrontations," she stated in response to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's comments about Beijing's detrimental influence on European security.

Mao Ning also called on the alliance to "correct its misconceptions about China and stop maligning the People's Republic of China."
