Dozens dead, injured after Israeli strike on tent camp in Gaza

10 September 2024 11:36

Israeli airstrikes on a tent camp for displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza killed or injured 65 people.

The Israeli military stated that it had targeted a Hamas command centre, Caliber.Az informs via foreign media.

Residents and medics reported that at least four missiles struck a tent encampment near Khan Younis in the Al-Mawasi area, which is designated as a humanitarian zone.

The camp, crowded with displaced Palestinians who had fled from other parts of the territory, was heavily affected.

A Gaza civil emergency official noted that their teams are still recovering the deceased and injured from the area, and described it as "a new Israeli massacre."

The emergency service confirmed that women and children were among the 65 killed and injured, but did not specify how many were dead or wounded.

Hamas rejected Israel’s claims that the camp housed gunmen or was used for military purposes, calling them “a blatant lie intended to justify these heinous acts.”

In a statement, Hamas condemned the strike as a “brutal act of genocide,” accusing Israel of conducting attacks with complete disregard for international law, humanitarian principles, or resolutions demanding an end to the aggression.

Notably, at least 40,988 people have been killed and 94,825 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza. In Israel, the number of those killed in the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 is at least 1,139, while more than 200 people were taken captive.
