EU highlights broader risks from Middle East conflict beyond missile threats
European foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas responded to recent threats from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strike European cities in retaliation for potential defensive measures.
In an interview with Radio Liberty, Kallas stressed that, despite Iran’s warnings, Tehran’s capabilities are limited.
“Iran’s capabilities are not unlimited, especially if its major allies do not provide support. As the Americans have also stated, their targets are missile installations and missile factories. Therefore, Iran’s ability to inflict damage is likely more limited than they try to portray. So this is also always a battle of narratives,” she said.
She also highlighted the broader implications of the Middle East conflict, noting potential disruptions to supply chains and trade routes, as well as “the risks of migratory pressure toward us.”
“These are all risks that we truly need to take into account,” Kallas added, emphasizing the need for vigilance amid heightened regional tensions.
