Cuba's national power grid collapses again

Cuba's national electricity grid has suffered another total collapse, marking the latest in a series of major outages that have disrupted power supplies across the island in recent weeks.

Cuba's state-owned electricity company said the National Electric Power System (SEN) experienced a complete blackout at 10:43 p.m. local time on Aug. 2, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

On Aug. 1, the grid suffered a partial outage that left several provinces in western and central Cuba without electricity.

In July, the national power system collapsed three times in eight days.

Cuban authorities attribute the island's deepening energy crisis primarily to the long-standing US trade, economic and financial embargo, as well as tighter unilateral sanctions imposed by Washington since the beginning of this year, including what they describe as a fuel blockade.
