Spain’s Ceuta sees 73,500 migrants leave after mass influx

02 August 2026 15:04

Around 73,500 migrants have already left the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta on the northern coast of Africa and headed toward Morocco.

According to foreign media reports, the figure may include migrants who arrived in the city before the mass influx of undocumented migrants on July 30, as well as those who crossed the border more than once.

In late July, thousands of migrants reached Ceuta by swimming or on foot after bypassing the breakwater separating the Spanish enclave from Morocco. Spain's Interior Ministry initially estimated that about 50,000 people had arrived in the city.

Ceuta's local authorities, however, put the number of arrivals at 60,000. According to the latest figures, at least 72 people died while attempting to reach Spanish territory.
