Trump prepares action over wildfire smoke drifting from Canada

US President Donald Trump signalled retaliatory measures against Canada over smoke drifting into the United States from Canadian wildfires, but did not disclose what those measures would be.

Earlier, Trump accused Canadian authorities of failing to properly manage the country's forests. He argued that smoke from the wildfires has cost the US economy billions of dollars and suggested adding those costs to existing tariffs on Canadian imports.

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, more than 800 active wildfires were burning across Canada as of July. Smoke from the fires spread into parts of the northeastern United States, including New York.
