French Jewish community calls for apology from Macron Over remarks on Israel
The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF) has condemned President Emmanuel Macron's recent comments regarding Israel's military actions in Lebanon, describing them as "outrageous" and "unacceptable."
This statement comes in the wake of Macron's remarks at a conference aimed at raising funds for Lebanon, where he criticized Israel's military policy and referred to it as "barbarism," Caliber.Az reports via French media.
During the conference, Macron stated, “We talk a lot about the war of civilizations. I'm not sure you can defend civilization by sowing barbarism,” which he directed at Israel's actions.
In response, CRIF expressed that Macron's comments unjustly equate Israel, a democratic nation under attack, with the true aggressors—Hamas and Hezbollah—who perpetrate violence against civilians. The council has called for an apology from the French president, seeking "words that will soothe and heal the wounds."
